:: About The UIC String Orchestra:: |
The String Orchestra is open to all UIC students, staff and faculty with training. The group is one of the newer ensemble offerings at the Chicago campus and meets the needs of the many string players looking for a way to continue performing in orchestra at the UIC. Occasionally wind players from the UIC Concert Band are invited to perform with the String Orchestra in order to performan repertoire for full orchestra. Students from all disciplines are encouraged to participate and should look at auditions as part of the organizing process of the group, rather than as a strict screening process.
UIC String Ensemble conductor Daniel Black has a strong connection to the rich Russian tradition of the St. Petersburg (Leningrad) Conservatory. Mr. Black is also Music Director of the Rockford Symphony Youth Orchestra (RSYO) and conductor of the summertime Hamilton Wings SCORE youth opera project. He has guest conducted numerous professional orchestras, including the Champaign/Urbana Symphony, the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, St. Petersburg State Academic Symphony Orchestra and the St. Petersburg Symphony “Classica”.
